Company History
Metal Coatings International Inc. began as a Diamond Shamrock Corporation, Metal Coatings Division, a division renowned as a developer and licensor of proprietary corrosion protective coatings for ferrous materials as well as Aluminum and Zinc substrates. Metal Coatings Division developed such successful products as ZINCROMET®, ZINCROPLEX®, ZINCROMETAL®, and DACROMET®, which revolutionized the performance expected out of automotive components.
Nippon Dacro Shamrock (NDS), developed in 1973, has been successful in introducing MCII's products throughout Asia and the
Pacific Rim, including the first automotive licensee, Toyota, in 1978. NDS's licensees have developed a reputation for excellent quality, resulting in numerous automotive and non-automotive specifications.
DACRAL has provided Europe/Africa with MCII's Coating Systems since 1976. Their success is the direct result of the relationships they have formed with their licensees and automotive manufacturers. With numerous captive and job-shop licensees, DACRAL is able to ensure that all industrial applications are supplied with quality applicators.
Metal Coatings Brasil started in 1978 as a division of Diamond Shamrock do Brasil. Metal Coatings Brasil is responsible for marketing, manufacturing and licensing of the DACROMET® and GEOMET® Coating Systems to support automotive manufacturing plants in South America.
hi-fil pinturas - In 1998, in order to serve the OEM manufacturing plants and suppliers that relocated to Mexico, MCII contracted hi-fil pinturas to be their manufacturing, technical and marketing arm in Mexico.
In 1984, MCII became a subsidiary of NOF Corporation, a worldwide diversified paint and chemicals company. The increase in capital available and the need to better understand the application process to demonstrate quality lead MCII to form Michigan Metal Coatings Company (MMC) in Rochester Hills, MI in 1986.
Manufacturing of all of MCII's coating systems was historically completed through contract manufacturers in close proximity to MCII World Headquarters and various licensees. In order to control all variables in the production of it's coatings, MCII opened a manufacturing facility adjacent to it's offices in 1990.
In 1996, due to expansion in non-automotive and Southeasten regional business requiring local supply, MCII formed Georgia Metal Coatings Company in Norcross, GA.
